THE ROSIE PROJECT by Graeme Simsion | Book Review

 FROM GOOGREADS:
 Narrator Don Tillman 39, Melbourne genetics prof and Gregory Peck look-alike,  sets a 16-page questionnaire The Wife Project to find a non-smoker, non-  drinker ideal match. But Rosie and her Father Project supersede. The  spontaneous always-late smoker-drinker wants to find her biological father.  She resets his clock, throws off his schedule, and turns his life topsy-turvy.

 The secong book on my memory that has (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones in it. This should mean something.=) (I LOVE that song after Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire, because I've listened to it non-stop last spring. It's like my spring theme song)

 O.k. the book!
It was really cute in some places, serious in other and kept me guessing, who that freaking biological father was, so I stayed awake for half of the night to find it out.
 I really liked Don, as a character, he's such a deary. Liked his candor and he made me laugh/smile a lot, especially in the first half of a book, when he still was more himself and hasn't changed. At first, he says almost everything that comes to his mind and in the second half he become skilled in communication and can sense people's moods and starts to filter his words. Don was trying his best throughout the book, but people don't seem to see that. I wanted to pat his back 60% of time, because, like seriously, his Asperger Syndrome is not diagnosed, but it's OBVIOUS!!! And no one seems to notice that and keep calling him "weird" and treat him like he's pretending...  Even his best friends, Gene and Claudia (despite the fact that they're psychologists - O.K., they hinted it to him and he didn't understand, but still), same as Rosie, who's physology student... Weird.

 As for Rosie, I didn't like her. I thought she will be that corky and fun, easy-going lady, that loves to make some noise, but she was sooo stubborn, often unsympathetic and sometimes even mean to Don. He doesn't deserve that. Many described their relationship like if Sheldon (from The Big Bang Theory) falls for Penny, but for me it was more like if Sheldon falls for Bernadette. And the fact that Don changed so much for her, even when it was soooo hard for him, and Rosie stayed almost the same, maybe became a little more calm and soft (yes!), but still..nuh. This situation disappointed me, to be honest.
 Speaking of secondary characters, I liked Claudia. She is really helpful, despite the fact that Don often drives her nuts and she's strong and keeps her family together, while Gene, who's her husband always cheat and act like a douche. Also I really like Dave. He appeared only in second half of a book and has a small part, but I'd love to know more about this simple, down-to-earth family guy, who supported Don, when he needed it. And I think I'll get a chance to do that. Soon. *wink* =)

 Now about the plot in few words. First 40-45% of the book was hi-la-ri-ous! Then after that mark, everything became more serious and even kinda sad at one point. I really wanted to support Don, because others often ignored him. The mystery element kept me guesing and at the middle of the book I got the right answer, but then Don found out some more interesting stuff and confused me, so I strayed in his surmises and began to suspect every man older than 50.=D 
 Also I'd like to mention, that I wasn't a big fan of abruptness of chapters. It felt like they were choped, like everytime I thought that something is about to happen with one of the cha..THE END! That's what it felt like. The ending for me was a bit rushed, but since it's a happy ending, I'm Okay with that. And actually despite all the small flaws, I really liked this book and those flaws weren't that annoying after all. Everything wrapped up perfectly and this made me smile.
 And considering all that perfect ending, I was really surprised to found out, that the sequel will be released in September... But then again in Thank You part of the book author tells us that this book was supposed to be a script for TV show/movie at first, and then with help of bunch of awesome peeps became a book. So being turned into a series kinda make sense now. Still not sure if I want to read the sequel or not, but I think that, at the end of the day, I'll pick it up and read it in 2-3 sittings just like The Rosie Project.

 So. My overall impression is REALLY GOOD! I gave this book 4/5 stars on Goodreads and would recommend it to you, fellow reader, if you want to read fun, quick and easy, light-hearted book with a thick drop of "who's my bio father" mystery and cute main character, who you'd like to protect like your own bro/kid (well, he's 39 years old, so for me he's a bro, but you know, you know) and who you'd like to hug most of the time.=)

MAY Buddy Reads for You.

 Last month I filmed a video on my YT channel, where I was talking about upcoming or current buddy reads that were happening in my favourite Goodreads groups. And I must say I was glad that so many of my awesome viewers liked that idea. To be honest, I cut that list a little and included mostly the books I own (either as physical books or audiobooks, or ebooks, it doesn't matter). But there are sooo many good books this time, that I don't want to pass some of them, and want you to know about more readalongs to participate.
 That's why this time I'll include all of those I know about, so you will have a variety of books to chose from.=)

 I'll start with my favourite Goodreads group - Booktube Reading Buddies:

 So far this month we have 1 group read and 4 buddy reads, and I own all of those books in various form. You can't even imagine how much I want to read them all, but I don't want to set my hopes to high this time and hope to have fun, just like it was in April.

Books:

 

= Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides (group read);

= Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell;

= Hyperion by Dan Simmons;

= Vicious by V.E. Schwab;

= Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente.

 I'll be reading Vicious with the group for sure and may listen to Hyperion as an audiobook. Of course, I'm interested in all of those, but I don't want to create a pile now.
 Oh, and some of those buddy reads have a reading schedule, but you can read in your own pace.

Next stop - The Jolly Good Reading Society.
 This group always chose their reads for 2 months, so the next 3 books were picked for March 25-May 24 period. I've alredy read and really liked one of those, and planning to read another.

= The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion (the one I've read);

= Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore: A Novel by Robin Sloan (the one I plan to read);
= The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

Another one is International Reads.
 They've chosen the book that I don't own, so I might read their last month pick, that was The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende.
 But this month's choice is:

= In the Shadow of the Banyan by Vaddey Ratner.

 I wish I can join this readalong... Book sounds sooo interesting. But even if I order it right now from BetterWorldBooks, it won't be here will June. Oh, well. Next time.








Next group - Nothing but Reading Challenges.
 Why I love this group is that because they always have more than 5 books on their montly to-read list. It's "group reads" (2-3) and "buddy reads" (usually more than 4-5). I won't add their budy reads this time, but please, check them out (link in the title). 
 So, the group reads are:

  

= The House Girls by Tara Conklin (I'd love to read this book someday, but I don't own it);
= If I Stay by Gayle Forman (have an ebook, wanna read it before the movie came out - that trailer!!!);
= The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon (own that beautiful hardback, and may join the fun).

SciFi and Fantasy Book Club.
 Hm, it's weird, because I saw that they picked these books, that you'll see in a moment, but the're gone right now. Maybe some editing, though. But anyway, here they are:

 

= The Last Wish by Andrzei Sapkowski (have an ebook, got it last year, in autumn, may join the readalong, because it's a witch book and I'd love to read more of those);
= The Mote in God's Eye by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle (tbh, never heard of this book before, but it sounds good).

Classic for Beginners:

= East of Eden by John Steinbeck.

 I have my mom's old copy, so maybe I'll read this book soon, but I'm not 100% sure that I want to read in now. Maybe, maybe, maybe...
 Anyway, heard amazing things, it's lot's of people's favorite book, and it's on my TBR list.


O.K., and the next 2 books are readalongs by fairly new groups created by my favorite booktubers (and they pick new books every month/or almost every month). Also they're doing liveshows and I'll link a few videos for you, where you can get more info.







Fire & Flood Readalong.



= Fire & Flood (#1 in Fire & Flood series/trilogy) by Victoria Scott.
 Liveshow will be happening on 24th of May at 8pm GMT, so you have plenty of time to read this book in time and then dicsuss it in group and/or during the liveshow (but beware, there will be A LOT of spoilers in this liveshow, so you'd better read the book first, if you plan to).
 I'm not sure, if I want to read this book or not, because it was really hyped on booktube, and I tend to dislike overhyped book in most of cases, so we'll see. My monthly "reading plans" list is already cray-cray.

Contempopary Lovers!
I was really excited to know that Anabel @ IntheBookCorner, Juhina @ Majibookshelf and few other booktubers created this group for contemporary fiction lovers.=) (yay!) I love to read contemporary books every once in a while, and the first pick makes me even more excited, because it's:



= Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira.
 The reason why I am sooo excited, is because, firstly, it's epistolary - and I love epistolary!!!-, and, secondly, because recently I've found out that Stephen Chbosky (yes!) was Ava's mentor and she also worked with him on The Perks movie (if I'm not mistaken, but I might be). And many say that Letters are a little similar to The Perks of Being a Wallflower (and I LOVED that book, it's one of my top fav books and also one of my top 10 influential book). So I can't wait to read it. Hooray!
 Liveshow: June 7th 2pm EST. And here's Anabel's and Junina's videos for you, because they can explain everything better.=)

I thought I'll finish it, but no. Well, I'll continue reading no matter what.:)

Read remaining 36 pages of The Story... and 110 pages of Charlotte's Web.

Currently reading: The Story of Mr.Sommer by Patrick Süskind (72% done with it on my e-reader).

Books finished: 0. It's only morning, so I still have plenty of time.:)

Read 10 pages of Reckless by Cornelia Funke and 14 pages of The Resurrectionist by E.B.Hudspeth, then fell asleep (tired, busy week)
Started The Story of Mr.Sommer this morning, 94 pages (72%) in and hope to finish it soon. This short novel is weird...for real.

Running total of pages read: 176. Not bad, right? It's not what I've expected, but I'm pretty proud of myself.:)

Amount of time spent reading: 3 hours. I've told ya, "updates every 3 hours".:) Timer on my phone helps indeed.

  I'll be reading the City Of Lost Souls (#5 in TMI series), which was released in Russian last month (yay!). Have read first 4 last January and loved them. So, I waited long enough to continue and now it's time, because the City of Heavenly Fire, 6th and final book in this series, will be released on May 27, 2014 and oh my, I'm excited!!!=)
  My edition is in Russian, hardback and has 672 pages. So, hope I'll finish it in couple sittings... **fingers crossed**

 If (good luck!) I finish COLS before the end of Clare-a-Thon, I may start The Infernal Devices trilogy. I own first 2 - Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince, and the 3rd and final one - Clockwork Princess, will be released in Russian in April and I may or may not (we'll see) buy it soon.=)
